Poem: I Am Me

I might be alone
But I’m fully grown
I know who I am
Who I need to be
I am me
That’s plain for the world to see
I’m breaking out from these chains
And your containment
Proving I’m not here for your entertainment
That I have a purpose for being on this earth
And some self worth

You won’t control me
Not anymore
You won’t tell me who to be
Not anymore

I am the person everyone can see
It might be be plain and boring old me
But I’m proud of who I’m turning out to be
