The Perks of Being a Wallflower has been on my to watch list for a while and the other night I got a chance to see it with Marysia.
I haven’t read the book so I didn’t really know what to expect apart from what I had seen in the trailer. The film is a drama/romance film directed by Stephen Chbosky released in 2012 starring Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller among others.

I should have seen it a lot sooner. Emma Watson’s character, Sam, is a complete contrast to Hermoine. She has clearly grown up a lot since her Harry Potter days.Overall I enjoyed the film. It has a good soundtrack and is a lot like most ‘coming of age’ films that are out there. However The Perks of Being a Wallflower does tackle a whole ton of different topics including mental health and abuse, drugs and relationships. Whilst there are some light hearted moments thrown in to prevent the storyline being too dark Chbosky stays true to showing the ugly side of teenage life.
