Book Lovers Day 2018 – Eve of Man Book Review

One of my goals I spoke about this month was to read more, this is because I had read a book which I had really enjoyed and being someone who has never particularly enjoyed reading it is always a challenge to stick with a book all the way through.Seeing that is it book lovers day today I thought it was a good time to talk about the book that I have enjoyed recently especially as it has made me want to read a bit more!The book is called ‘Eve of Man’, the first installment in a triology written by Giovanna Fletcher and Tom Fletcher. I was particularly curious about the book mainly because of who the authors are and the hype that had been created around social media prior to its release. I ended up purchasing the book on impulse when it was released throught the Google Play Store, I hadn’t read the blurb prior to the release and neither had seen the video Tom shared prior to the book coming out. So I didn’t really know what to expect from the book when I started reading it.

Honestly, it was probably a good thing that I hadn’t read anything to do with the plot of the book prior to reading because if I had I would have most likely avoided it if I had. I also haven’t read any of Giovanna’s other books prior to starting Eve of Man so I had no idea what to expect from her writing style. Also knowing Tom’s books are generally aimed at a much younger audience I ws a bit unsure of how well the two of them would work to produce a book together.https://youtu.be/eoV34iTlyGENow I have read my fair share of young adult novels. It is generally the type of book I would read as they are usually easier to read and don’t require as much focus on the storyline. I don’t however tend to read any science fiction books, I usually steer clear of them beause they’ve never really been ‘my thing’. So when I started reading the book and found out what genre Eve of Man fell into I almost stopped reading it. I’m glad I didn’t.Giovanna tells the story from Eve’s point of view and Tom takes on Bram’s point of view alternatively. In some cases telling a story in this way wouldn’t work, however for this particular book it works out very well and their seperate but also joint stories run together very smoothly. I very quickly became hooked on the story and invested in the characters – particularly the leads Eve and Bram. There are plenty of twists in the story which kept me hooked throughout the book, which unlike many other books I have read, meant I struggled to put it down.Now there were parts of the story that felt it was moving too fast and equally times when it felt that it was moving a bit slowly however this didn’t detract from how much that I enjoyed the book.I wsn’t aware that Eve of Man was the first in a triology of the same book with the two following installments yet to be released. However when I did find this out, I was and still am very excited to read what happens next to Eve and Bram.The reason why I chose to talk particularly about Eve of Man on book lovers day is because it did what not a lot of books have been able to do – and that’s make me think I can enjoy reading again! I think the main reason why I enjoyed this book so much is because it was from a genre I wouldn’t have normally chosen to read from.I guess the saying is true – You shouldn’t always judge a book by its cover…. or genre!(image credit Penguin)
