After years of not really worrying about what I put into my body and ignoring the effects it has on my body I recently faced up to the fact that my body really was not liking certain things I have been putting into it.

I mean to the extent that I end up throwing up, stuck to the sofa with really bad stomach cramps and unable to move. This has been happening a lot more frequently and started impacting my enjoyment of food altogether as I did not know what was causing it other than ‘something I was eating’.

I finally had an intolerance test and think we may be getting somewhere with working out what is causing the issues. It has helped pinpoint things I need to avoid altogether and other things I need to reduce my consumption of. But whilst it is things I enjoy eating and drinking that I need to do this with if it relieves the pain, I end up in then it will be worth it.

My current list of things to eliminate are:

  • Barley
  • Soya Flour
  • Cheese
  • Dairy
  • Egg
  • Hazelnut Milk
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Milk Chocolate
  • White Wine
  • Red Wine
  • Soya Milk
  • Miso
  • Soya Beans
  • Tofu (I do not eat this so this one won’t be a problem)
  • Barleygrass
  • Malt Vinegar
  • Chestnuts
  • Hazelnuts
  • Walnuts
  • Oyster Sauce
  • Cod Liver Oil
  • Soy Sauce
  • Cod
  • Haddock
  • Fishfingers
  • Oysters
  • Mushrooms

As you can see it is a super long list, but hopefully over time I will be able to reintroduce some of these things to my diet.

We also found out that I have an intolerance to certain antioxidants, colourings, emulsifiers, preservative and sweeteners.

I am so glad that this has given me a starting point to rectifying my stomach problems and apparently, I will see improvements in my skin, tiredness, headaches, and other things too.

This will be a bit of a journey – but it had to start somewhere!
