Storyline

The tragic and controversial story of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed in Texas for killing his three children after scientific evidence and expert testimony that bolstered his claims of innocence were suppressed. (IMDb)

Trial By Fire is a 2 hour 7 minute drama based upon a true story directed by Edward Zwick starring Jack O’Connell, Laura Dern, and Emily Meade.

My Thoughts

I have tried to watch this on multiple occassions however the first few times I couldn’t quite get into it. However, once I finally sat down to watch it – it is definitely the kind of film you have to pay attention to and can’t just have on in the background and follow along.

I hadn’t previously read much about the original case or the execution of Cameron Todd Willingham so I did find the film quite emotional and thought provoking especially when it comes to the use of execution within the justice system.

Whilst I would recommend watching the film, I would allow yourself time to sit down and concentrate on it. I would also say give the film a bit of time as it isn’t one of those films which is all action from the outset you need to give the plot a chance to build up.
